July 26, 2018 - Reaching the 72nd parallel North
On 26 July, Nanuq crossed into the 72nd parallel north – a circle of latitude in the Arctic where the sun is visible for 24 hours!
The scientific exploration projects on board are also progressing well:
- the PolarQuEEEst detector is taking almost half a gigabyte of data every day;
- six microplastics samplings have been collected (see picture above), and the rate will increase now as Nanuq has passed into the area above the island of Jan Mayen;
- scouting with drones continues, with new experience gained with every excursion.
From #Nanuq crossing #GreenlandSea: Sailing with no engine, saving batteries. Sunny. Had to avoid #icebergs so deviated south. Time goes fast with shift: 2 hrs out, 7 in, dressing and undressing 15′ each… @Crewsaver @Survitec #SailTheElements pic.twitter.com/P2wvkDEDEO
