POLARQUEST 2018

July 26, 2018 - Reaching the 72nd parallel North

Nanuq reaches 72nd parallel north

Scientific missions progressing well

On 26 July, Nanuq crossed into the 72nd parallel north – a circle of latitude in the Arctic where the sun is visible for 24 hours!

The scientific exploration projects on board are also progressing well:

  • the PolarQuEEEst detector is taking almost half a gigabyte of data every day;
  • six microplastics samplings have been collected (see picture above), and the rate will increase now as Nanuq has passed into the area above the island of Jan Mayen;
  • scouting with drones continues, with new experience gained with every excursion.
